I've eaten at Asif before and have had some terrific food –usually hit or miss: some dishes are amazing, some fall flat -- all are expensive. But last night I went with a friend with a ‘baligam’ coupon, and received the worst food and service ever. The deal was 6 starter dishes + 2 aperitifs (arak), with the option to trade the drinks for 2 dishes, which we wanted to do. Of the 6 dishes we asked for, they were out of 3 of them. We were incredibly disappointed with the food, which ranged from bad to terrible, and had too much raw garlic. There was 1 exception: the fava bean tortellini in curry cream, which was amazing. We tried to order a second, but the waitress forgot, and then they ran out of it. Both our waitress and the restaurant manager told us that the entire week was a disaster, they were unable to support the guests that came in to use their coupon for the last week of the deal. When I said my friend was still hungry (we only received 5 of our dishes), the waitress said she could bring us extra BREAD. !!!! They gave free desserts to every single table in the restaurant because everyone was disappointed and complaining. When I asked the manager what he plans to do for the next 3 days while the deal is still on, he said that it will be exactly the same, a total disaster. He had no plans for how to fix the problem. I suggested he tell people making reservations that he will honor the coupons after the expired date, and not to come this week, if it will be such a bad experience. He shrugged. What is most sad from this whole story is that they had so many options for fixing this disaster. They could extend the date, or split up some main courses to be part of the starters menu, or let diners order off of the main menu, or let people exchange their coupon to come another time, or many other ideas. Instead, they just gave up and served terrible food accompanied by bad service – and complained about it to all the guests.
